Research suggests that approximately 70 – 92% of our New Year’s Resolutions fail. Pretty bad odds – right?!
Despite our best intentions, most of us can relate to the feeling of dwindling willpower as we head into the fourth week of January - I've certainly been there. For many years, I stopped making New Year’s Resolutions altogether as I assumed that they were destined to fail...
But I was so wrong.
It turns out that it’s how we make New Year’s Resolutions (or set any goal for that matter) which determines how likely they are to fail or succeed.
So, the key to making New Year's Resolutions stick & unlocking long-term success? Mastering the art of making & breaking habits. My new programme – Mastering Habits – teaches you exactly how to do this.
If you’ve got big goals for 2025 and you want results which last; if you want to get off the cycle of “I’ll start again on Monday”; if you are done with fads & quick fixes; if you want success without having to rely on motivation or willpower; if you want a bank of tools, resources & activities which you can tap into for years to come, whenever you want to make positive behavioural change - this programme was designed for you.
Read below for a sneak-peak into some of the key topics & tools discussed in Mastering Habits!
1. Clarity > Motivation
By relying on motivation to keep us on track and get us results, we’re setting ourselves up for failure.
The truth is, you aren’t going to feel more motivated this year than you did last year. You’ll come up against the same challenges – lack of time, convenience etc. – and seek the same comforts – staying at home in your PJs rather than heading to the gym (for example)…
So, what’s the alternative? Clarity.
In order to succeed, you need to be clear on exactly what you are aiming for, what you will do to get there & why this is important to you.
2. Building a Success Mindset
Whether we succeed or fail is largely determined by our mindsets.
What stories do we tell ourselves about who we are?
Can we show up for ourselves in small ways every day?
Do we understand how our existing ‘bad’ habits are serving us?
Are we able to challenge our own thoughts?
When we conquer these pillars and establish a ‘success mindset’, we’re half way there!
3. Environment Design
What if our behaviours aren’t a reflection of who we are, but where we are?
At an open bar? You’re more than likely to order an alcoholic drink. Got a TV in your bedroom? You’re more than likely to watch it in bed. Got your phone with you? You’re more than likely to check your notifications.
Aligning our environments with our desired behaviours is one of my favourite ways to create new habits which stick. It serves as a constant reminder of our goals and allows our desired behaviours to become the path of least resistance.
